README.TXT August, 2002 KODAK PROFESSIONAL HR500 TWAIN Data Source V3.2 for the KODAK PROFESSIONAL HR500, HR500 Plus, and Universal Film Scanners for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and Microsoft Windows 2000 ----------------------------------------------------------------- ***************************************************************** ** ** I N S T A L L A T I O N ** ***************************************************************** This software requires Windows NT 4.0, service pack 4 or later or Windows 2000 and at least 512MB of RAM. To install the KODAK PROFESSIONAL HR500 TWAIN Data Source: 1. Be sure your computer is properly connected to the HR500 Scanner and that the SCSI card supplied with the scanner has been installed properly (See the manual for installation instructions). IMPORTANT! Never connect or disconnect the cable between your computer and the scanner while either device is turned on. Damage may result. 2. Insert the CD-ROM containing the KODAK PROFESSIONAL HR500 TWAIN Data Source software or download the software from the web at http://www.kodak.com/global/en/service/software/kproHost/hr500Twain.shtml Using Explorer. Double-click on the self-extracting archive to begin the installation. Follow the prompts that appear. NOTE: The default installation location for the software is \\Twain_32\Hr500 ex. C:\Winnt\Twain_32\Hr500 ***************************************************************** ** ** Q U I C K S T A R T ** ***************************************************************** To run the software for the first time... 1. After the software has been installed, start Adobe Photoshop 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, or 7.0. 2. Choose "Import" from the file menu. From the "Import" menu choose "TWAIN_32...". The HR500 GUI will be displayed. NOTE: Very important. There is a delay between the time the Import command is performed and the GUI is displayed. The TWAIN Data Source is connecting to the scanner. ***************************************************************** ** ** D E - I N S T A L L A T I O N ** ***************************************************************** To remove the HR500 TWAIN Data Source from your computer... 1. From the Windows Start menu, choose "Settings->Control Panels". 2. Double-click "Add/Remove Programs". 3. Choose "KODAK PROFESSIONAL HR500 TWAIN Data Source" from the list that appears and click OK. ***************************************************************** ** ** A D D I T I O N A L I N F O R M A T I O N ** ***************************************************************** ------------------------- Host Requirements ------------------------- 1.) Windows NT 4.0, service pack 4 or above or Windows 2000. 2.) The SCSI Card supplied with scanner. 3.) Minimum 512MB of RAM (depends on the image sizes being scanned). 4.) Minimum Pentium II processor with MMX. 5.) Minimum 1GB Hard Drive space. ------------------------- Scanner Requirements ------------------------- 1.) Scanner firmware must be at level 3.201 or later. ------------------------- Known Problems ------------------------- 1.) The detail slider will allow a file size of approx. 136Mb for 6 x 9 (Max for scanner is 128Mb). This will only happen the first time. Change the film size, then change back to 6 x 9. 2.) When the TWAIN Data Source is setup to scan large file sizes, if the computer runs out of RAM and starts paging, performance will be adversely effected. --------------------------- Changes made in version 3.2 --------------------------- 1.) The Detail Slider had been made more deterministic. 2.) A Saturation control has been added. 3.) Only the crop area of the image is displayed in the strip gate thumbnail frames. 4.) The strip gate jog slider will display the amount the film was moved. 5.) Photoshop 7.0 is supported with this release. --------------------------- Changes made in version 3.1 --------------------------- 1.) The film type will display the film term file name rather than the internal film term name as was the case in version 3.0. 2.) The capability to recall and use the last crop used when the TWAIN Data Source was last opened was added. 3.) The image size, width, and height displayed above the preview window reflect the size and dimensions of the image transferred to the host application. --------------------------- Changes made in version 3.0 --------------------------- 1.) The 35mm and 120 mm strip gate is supported. 2.) Defect removal is an option, using Digital ICE technology from Applied Science Fiction. 3.) A stored calibration feature to reduce the number of times the scanner must be calibrated has been added. 4.) Two options for the Kodak Scene Balance Algorithm: Normal and Enhanced. The Enhanced SBA improves flesh tones in certain lighting conditions. ------------------------- Fixes made in version 1.3 ------------------------- 1.) Photoshop 6 is now supported by this release. 2.) Focus fixes have been made to both the TWAIN Data Source and the HR500 Scanner firmware. Improvements to the error handling have been added which caused the software to scan the incorrect file size. 4.) Fixed the RGB code value readouts. ------------------------- Fixes made in version 1.1 ------------------------- 1.) A memory leak was detected in version 1.0 and was resolved in version 1.1. 2.) Scanning with a setup that produces very large image size (>80Mb) will no longer cause the TWAIN Data Source to exit. 3.)
